Organic standards & certification

OAN serve the growing organic sector. Whether you’re already certified organic, considering transitioning all or part of your operation, or working with organic producers, we have resources for you. This portal connects you with programs, services, and educational materials that can help your organic farm or business.

How to Become Certified Organic

Certifiers are responsible for making sure that OAN organic products meet all organic standards. There are five basic steps to organic certification:

  • The farm or business adopts organic practices, and submits an application and fees to the OAN.
  • The certifying agent reviews the application to verify that practices comply with OAN organic regulations.
  • An inspector conducts an on-site inspection of the applicant’s operation.
  • OAN reviews the application and the inspector’s report to determine if the applicant complies with the OAN regulations.
  • OAN issues organic certificate.
